Man, Woman Dead In Apparent Domestic Murder-Suicide on Chicago's Northwest Side
Police responded to a person shot call in Portage Park Monday afternoon, reportedly tied to a person shot in the Belmont-Cragin area, domestic issues suspected.
Police responded to a call of a person shot on the 6300 block of W Addison around 12:38 P.M. Monday afternoon. According to scanner traffic, the caller said the son shot himself. Police then found an unresponsive man with a self inflicted gunshot wound. The man was pronounced deceased a short time late. Reports identified Julian Ruiz as the deceased in the 16th district, in an apparent suicide.
According to a source, the victim of the suicide was also the offender of a murder in the 25th district. Around 12:09 PM, 25th district police responded to a well being check on the 5500 block of W Diversey. Police met with a woman who said her daughter was not answering the phone and was depressed due to issues with her boyfriend. Police were able to enter the apartment where they found an unresponsive woman with an apparent gunshot wound and a large pool of blood.
During the investigation, police were able to determine that the woman had been shot the night before at approximately 10:59 PM. Police found one shell casing in the home. Police determined that both the suicide in the 16th district and the homicide in the 25th district were related and the victims in each case were involved in a romantic relationship with each other. Police released the following statement regarding the incident in the 5500 block of W Diversey: Police responded to a check the well- being call where they discovered a 26 year old female with a gunshot wound to the head. A 25 year old male was discovered in a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound to the head in the 6300 block of West Addison. Detectives investigation reveled this two incidents are related and appears to be a domestic related incident and detectives are still investigating.

The victim male, 25 was discovered inside a vehicle with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the above location where he was pronounced. Area Detectives are investigating. On Background: This appears to be an apparent suicide.
The Medical Examiner's office identified the woman as 26 year old Yasmine Moreno. The Medical Examiner's office has not ruled on a cause of death or manner of death and is expected to provide that this afternoon. They are expected to be ruled a homicide in the case of Yasmin Moreno and suicide in the case of her boyfriend, Julian Ruiz.
