Person Stabbed at 5150 N Northwest Highway Housing Development
A man was stabbed multiple times at the once-contentious development, no one in custody.
Chicago Police responded to the seventh floor at the 5150 N Northwest Highway development of person stabbed around 2:55 A.M on Friday morning. Initial scanner traffic stated that a 59-year-old male was stabbed in the head, chest, back and all over his body by a woman.
When police arrived, they were met by a man who told police he was stabbed by a woman and suffered multiple puncture wounds. He was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in “stable” condition.
Chicago Police provided the following statement: “A 59-year-old male victim was involved in a verbal altercation with a female offender while inside an apartment. The offender then grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing in an unknown direction. Area Five Detectives are investigating.”
The 5150 N Northwest Highway development, managed by Full Circle Communities, was at the center of contentious debate regarding “upzoning.” Proponents argued that “affordable housing” was necessary in the Jefferson Park community and this was the best way to achieve that. Opponents argued that the development did not fit the character of the neighborhood and was too large for what has traditionally been a single-family home centered neighborhood.

The development sits across from the 16th Chicago Police district station. The complex began to move residents in beginning April 2022. Between April 2022 and the end of January 2023, records show police have been called to the complex 92 times for many incidents, including domestic incidents, thefts, attempted suicides and now, a stabbing. Arrests have also taken place at the development since it began to move residents in.
According to Urbanize Chicago, the building consists of 15 market-rate and 60 affordable apartments offered in studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans. 40% of the units are subsidized by the Chicago Housing Authority, according to Nadig Newspapers. According to Full Circle Communities website, the development is “mixed-use, mixed-income, amenity-rich transit oriented development targeted to veterans, persons with disabilities, and working families in Jefferson Park.” A second Full Circle affordable housing development is planned to open at 6001 W. Lawrence Ave. That development consists of 48 units.
